As a creative dance educator, this children's book is a must have! Travel with Sherman, the Mile-long snake on his dancing adventure as he performs Anne Green Gilbert's Brain Dance, different types of locomotor and non-locomotor movements, explores various styles of dance and dance concepts such as levels, meets famous choreographers and travels across the states. The back of the book also has a "Choreographer fun facts" page and glossary of dance words. I will definitely be using this book in my classes this summer. If only the author would make more books like these related to dance-perhaps some to accompany Helen Landalf and Pamela Gerke's Movement Stories for Children Ages 3-8, I'd buy the whole set!Product details

Love, love, love, everything about this book. It is a perfect combination of educational and sillyness. It is a wonderful interactive book, it makes you want to get up and try each movement that is being explained. It would be a first choice in a classroom on a rainy stay in day, or a time when the children need to get out their wiggles.
As a former elementary school teacher, I found this book to be a great way to enhance the PE curriculum. I was always looking for creative ways to teach dance as part of the curriculum. This book really breaks down the concepts students need in order to learn dance techniques appropriate for elementary students. I wish I had had this book available when I was teaching.
Complete with vocabulary and an introduction to the world of dance as experienced through a delightful snake named Sherman, this awesome children's book should find its way on to the shelves of every child's library. Bravo to Douglas Goble on making dance education fun! Looking forward to the sequel, Snakespeare!
This is a cute book about dancing. I was really surprised that when I was reading it, my two year old got up and started doing the dance moves. It was magical! A must-get for dance lovers!
Sherman Dances is a very engaging and whimsical story teaching all who are fortunate to read this book connections to the world of DANCE! Sherman the Mile-long snake character takes the reader on a very informative but fun journey of sharing and presenting the names of renowned choreographers, celebrities, dance movements, etc. in an amusing interaction with the reader! You will find yourself putting the book down for a few moments so you can share a dance movement along with Sherman!
An excellent introduction to the world of dance; a very accessible avenue for those not initially interested in the subject (myself included). Mr. Douglas manages to illicit my interest! It's not just about dance moves, but Sherman takes us on a whole journey across the country, introducing us to some very interesting people and dance companies. His passion for dance and education are clear, inviting us to "praise His name with dancing" (Psalm 1493). Can't wait for the sequel!
Excellent children's book. The illustrations and content are excellent. My grandkids will love twisting, turning, and stretching as we go through the pages. I am enjoying the "fun facts" and will spend time with our grandchildren going over the map of the USA as Sherman travels from state to state.
The author is very well qualified and has a real knack for engaging the young readers!
